FrameCap ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that captures visual keyframes and spoken transcripts from online video players to facilitate AI analysis. This privacy policy explains what data we collect (none), how the Extension works, and your rights. We are committed to protecting your privacy and operating with total transparency.
FrameCap was built from the ground up on a zero-telemetry, local-only architecture. Specifically:
FrameCap operates entirely within your browser tab. When you click the capture button, the Extension accesses the active video player, extracts keyframe snapshots, and compiles them locally in memory on an HTML5 canvas. The resulting image and formatted transcript stay strictly on your computer, ready for you to paste into your AI of choice or save locally. At no point is any image or transcript transmitted to external servers.
The Extension requests only the minimum Chrome permissions necessary to function:
activeTab: Allows FrameCap to interact solely with the active tab when you explicitly click the extension icon or trigger the hotkey. FrameCap remains completely dormant on all other open tabs.
scripting: Required to read video player timestamps and snapshot video keyframes to draw onto an in-memory canvas.
clipboardWrite: Enables 1-click export by copying the combined image and prompt directly to your operating system clipboard for instant pasting into AI chats.
downloads: Used only when you choose to click the "Download PNG" button to save the storyboard to your local computer.
The FrameCap browser extension does not integrate with, send data to, or receive data from any third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising networks. There are zero external network requests made by the Extension.
Visual snapshots and transcripts are held temporarily in volatile browser memory (RAM) while you view the capture preview. As soon as you close the preview modal or close the browser tab, that memory is dereferenced and purged by your browser's garbage collector. FrameCap writes no persistent data to your disk unless you explicitly click "Download PNG".
FrameCap does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). Because the Extension operates locally and collects zero personal data from any user, FrameCap is fully safe and compliant for educational use.
Under regulations such as GDPR and CCPA, users have rights to access, delete, or restrict the sale of their personal data. Because FrameCap collects zero personal information, stores no user profiles, and runs no user databases, there is no personal data record to access, rectify, delete, or sell. You maintain 100% control over the software by simply installing or removing it from your browser.
FrameCap is built strictly on Google's Manifest V3 platform. This architecture enforces strict Content Security Policies, disallows remotely hosted executable scripts, and ensures all extension operations are transparently audited by Google's Chrome Web Store security scanner.
We may update this privacy policy periodically to reflect Chrome Web Store policy updates or service enhancements. Any modifications will be posted here with an updated "Last updated" date.
